The Landau-Zener formula made simple

چکیده
Abstract We employ the Markov approximation and well-known Fresnel-
integral to derive in "one-line" familiar expression for Landau-Zener
transition probability. Moreover, we provide numerical as well analytical
justifications our approach, identify three characteristic motions of the
probability amplitude complex plane.

The Landau-Zener formula.
The Landau-Zener formula for the probability that a nonadiabatic transition has taken place is derived without solving directly the usual second-order differential equation. This is achieved in just a few steps by using contour integration.
متن کاملA nonlinear Landau-Zener formula
We consider a system of two coupled ordinary differential equations which appears as an envelope equation in Bose–Einstein Condensation. This system can be viewed as a nonlinear extension of the celebrated model introduced by Landau and Zener. We show how the nonlinear system may appear from different physical models. We focus our attention on the large time behavior of the solution. We show th...

In 2005, C. Witting proposed a simple derivation of the formula; it looks very useful and probably will be widely used. In this Comment, a new derivation of the Landau−Zener formula is proposed. We study the dynamics of a spin coupled to an oscillating magnetic field, in the presence of decoherence and dissipation. In this context we solve the master equation for the Landau-Zener problem, both in the unitary and in the irreversible case. We show that a single spin can be " magnetized " in the direction parallel to the oscillating bias. When decay from upper to lower level is taken into...
متن کاملLandau–Zener–Stückelberg interferometry
A transition between energy levels at an avoided crossing is known as a Landau–Zener transition. When a two-level system (TLS) is subject to periodic driving with sufficiently large amplitude, a sequence of transitions occurs. The phase accumulated between transitions (commonly known as the Stückelberg phase) may result in constructive or destructive interference. Accordingly, the physical obse...
